 The Blue Economy Project engages citizens worldwide in coastal restoration projects to reverse climate change and support local communities’ economies. Blue carbon ecosystems—mangroves, kelp forests, coral reefs, and more—are the most effective way to permanently sequester carbon from the ecosystem. For us, we see this as an opportunity to leverage the power of nature to combat climate change and produce economic value. 

The Blue Economy Project stands out for its dual mission: as we champion a sustainable future on a global scale, we simultaneously make a lasting impact in local communities in need. Our approach not only tackles the urgent challenge of climate change but also nurtures a spirit of unity and collective accountability that knows no borders or personal agendas. 

The Blue Economy Project recognizes that in an increasingly individualistic world, our projects must foster a sense of collective responsibility and collaboration. And it does – climate change impacts all of us, and it takes our commitment to acting as global-citizens to reverse its effects. By promoting this shared goal of a sustainable future, we aim to inspire individuals to recognize their role as part of a global community. However, we don’t plan on stopping there. While blue carbon ecosystems are imperative to absorbing carbon emissions, they also provide local communities food, jobs, and protection from rising sea levels. With this, The Blue Economy Project hopes to ensure our projects remain resilient in their impact to local economies as well, not just its worldwide impact. 

We finance our projects through donations and partnerships with brands and individuals dedicated to combating climate change and fostering sustainable livelihoods for local communities. Then, we collaborate with local nonprofit organizations at each project site to oversee the restoration efforts and establish lasting job opportunities for local residents. From employing workers to replant mangroves or kelp forests, to engaging scientists for ongoing research and monitoring, to promoting tourism and ecotourism through the restoration of coastal ecosystems, and fostering sustainable aquaculture for income generation, our projects encompass more than merely reducing carbon emissions.
